Medical Minute; 2:02

Dave Kurten: The 3WZ Medical Minute is brought to you by Mount Nittany Medical Center. Our topic this week is the newly formed Mount Nittany Health System, and who better to tell us about that than President and CEO of Mount Nittany Medical Center Steve Brown. Thanks for joining us today.

Steve Brown: My pleasure, Dave.

Dave Kurten: Can you tell us a little bit about the newly formed Mount Nittany Health System?

Steve Brown: Sure. With the addition of the Mount Nittany Physician Group recently to the Mount Nittany family of services, this transitioned the Medical Center into a truly integrated healthcare delivery system. Now, the model itself simply changes the corporate structure of the Mount Nittany brand. The patient and provider experiences will remain at the center of every decision we make, for safe, effective healthcare delivery. But, it also provides a platform for continued growth and service to meet the needs of our broader community. Under the new structure, a nine-member board of directors will provide the governance to the parent organization – the Mount Nittany Health System. And a 16-member board of trustees will continue to head the Mount Nittany Medical Center, and the Mount Nittany Physician Group will function under its own physician-led and physician-elected board. And each of these sister corporations will have seats on the new parent board of directors that will ensure physician and community leadership for the entire system.

Dave Kurten: Will there be any change to patients’ access to care?

Steve Brown: Certainly nothing on the negative side, Dave. Rather, this will allow us to grow and expand our programs and services and actually improve access to care, especially in some of the more rural parts of the region.

Dave Kurten: How will the Mount Nittany Health System affect healthcare for the region?

Steve Brown: Our vision, Dave, is to grow our system so as to expand our services to a much broader, more regional service area. So not only will this improve access to care, as I mentioned earlier, it will also bring additional programs to the area and services to the parts of the region that may currently not have those particular services.

Dave Kurten: Where can the community get more information on the Mount Nittany Health System?

Steve Brown: As always, www.mountnittany.org

Dave Kurten: Steve Brown, president and CEO of Mount Nittany Medical Center, has been our guest in this edition of the Medical Minute. Thank you for your time.
